The Order of Hermes from the Dark Ages to the Age of Enlightenment

The Dark Ages proved to be the pinnacle of the power of the Order of Hermes, for even as they grew in strength and influence there were many in the church and the nobility who grew jealous and fearful of what the magi might become. Unaware of the danger brewing within Europe and perhaps unconcerned by the views of 'lesser mortals' an expedition composed of the Knights Templar and magi from House Tytalus rode into the Egyptian Interior on a secret mission known only to the preceptors of both orders.

The resulting scandal destroyed both orders and began the decline of the Order of Hermes both within Europe and over the magi of the continent ...

1300 - 1400 ... The Schism

A dangerous mission into the Egyptian interior provides the Order's enemies with the weapon they need to bring about the end of the Order of Hermes. The upheval within the Order are mirrored by changes in Europe.
1400 - 1500 ... Dawn of a New Age
The break up of the Order proves not to be the end but a new beginning as the first 'college' is formed. The old world discovers it is no longer alone as the first explorers reach beyond the horizon.
1500 - 1600 ... The Age of Enlightenment
The power of the written word is used to break the grip of the Catholic Church on the hearts and minds of Europeans. The Spanish Empire grows fat on its holdings in the New World.
1600 onwards. The End of the Renaissance
Civil wars tear Europe apart and the inheritors of the Order of Hermes are faced with a dark legacy from their past.
