Some ramblings on the making of Renaissance Ars Magica

It's been about a year since I first started nosing about the idea for this campaign and something like ten months since I finished the basic research, courtesy of numerous travel guides and history books since I don't have the cash to actually go to Venice. Whilst I've tried to keep it as close as possible to the real history of Europe from the 1300s to the 1600s, I have taken a liberty or two with history in order to fit the mages into Europe better. The worst of these 'artistic interpretations' was the bumping off of Pope Martin V in favour of my wholly made up Pope Theodoric II so that the wizards could get the papal thumbs up.

Before I start getting tons or tonnes of mail from real-life Venetians or Venice scholars who just wouldn't let it lie, mea culpa, I fiddled with Venice a bit too. Santa Croce is a distinct siestiere but I couldn't find a nice border distinction between it, San Polo and Dorsoduro. I have also made Castello out to be a rookery par excellence and a dark pit of despair, this is solely based on it having an ideal name for that kind of place! Sorry Castellians.

If people have any constructive criticism, better maps, or other handy things I can bung on feel free to drop me a line. Ta very much ....

In between then and now I've run it for a group of people who I suppose I should thank especially since I've put some of their characters in the People of Venice section :

Matthew Caryl
Jason Crocker
Jon Jones
Kieran Morely
Ian Thompson

And some PBEM, although not very much with :

Ian Thomas
Rachel Thomas
Steve Brooks
Thanks chaps it was fun and a little silly in places but we did some good roleplaying.

Enough of the oscar acceptance spiel!
Thank's for reading, you've been a wonderful browser,

Chris Snazell ....
